The perfect summer romper / playsuit

It’s not actually summer in the UK, not to me anyway. It got slightly warmer during the short 2 weeks of “spring”, but these days have been so windy and rainy that it feels like the weather has decided to skip summer entirely and go straight into fall.

But no worries, I’m going back to Vietnam soon, and then spend a few days in Bangkok and Pataya, Thailand for a getaway. In 2 weeks time I’ll be seeing sunshine and the beach. See you soon shorts and skirts, you’ve been missed.

However, the item I am looking forward to wearing the most during this summer is the romper (or playsuit, I don’t really know the difference).

Such a brilliant and chic way to wear romper. I have a similar romper (below) and I can’t wait to try this pairing on my holiday trip.

DIY Pearl Embellished Denim Jacket

Welcome to my first blog post!

At the beginning of the month I spotted this 7FAM pearl denim jacket on fashion blogger Aimee Song on Song of Style. I immediately fell in love with it. While everybody is going crazy about studs, pearls bring about such a fresh take on the denim jacket. However the price of the jacket is too steep for my wallet, so I thought about making it myself.

See her wearing this jacket here or here.

So I went on a hunt for the perfect denim jacket to start with. You can DIY an old denim jacket that you already have. I, on the other hand, never owned a denim jacket before. I can’t believe I didn’t have one because it’s about my favourite spring time item right now.

It took me a while to find this denim jacket because I have a specific idea of what it would look like, and I want to find a denim jacket exactly the way I want it. Finally found one on eBay. So here it is:

Things that I looked out for:

– Not too cropped, about lower waist level would be good.
– Light wash, I think a lighter wash goes better with pearls.
– Have button details at the back (see below). I know they’re completely useless but it makes the jacket that much better.
– Pockets! (this is a bonus that came with this jacket).

So here are what you need:

1. A denim jacket

2. All purpose glue/ Embellishment glue

3. White flat-back pearls (note that white pearls look different from ivory pearls, I think white goes better for this DIY) in different sizes. Here I have 5mm, 4mm, 3mm, 2mm.

The steps:

*Note: This will take a while, so I suggest you have a nice music playlist going, or a sitcom TV show.

1. Put a thick glossy magazine inside the jacket, underneath the shoulder panel that you are working on. It gives you a nice solid and stationary surface to work on.

2. Start glueing the bigger pearls on the jacket in a random pattern.

Working around the pearls and the glue can be quite tricky. I’ve tried many different ways but I find applying the glue on the jacket first, and then put the pearl on is much easier than applying glue on the pearl itself. Especially when you work with smaller pearls.

3. Glue the smaller pearls onto the jacket

4. Do the same for the other shoulder

5. So by this time I’m exhausted, that was A LOT of pearls, so I went for a fruit juice break, teehee.

6. Flip the jacket over, do the same thing and glue the bigger pearls randomly onto the shoulder panel.

Aaaaaaand you’re done with your “new” denim jacket!

Hope this was helpful for you.

I love this idea and I’m so glad I carried it out. This DIY transformed someone’s unwanted denim jacket into my new favourite, will-only-wear-for-certain-occasions jacket.

I will probably do an outfit or pairing post with this jacket soon. Stay tuned.

Bye for now and have a great day.
